Swimming
I marked a personal milestone in 2010 - 50 years involvement in the sport of Swimming. I've been a swimmer, coach, official, volunteer, committee & board member, and fan.

There can be no losers in a game whose very existence promotes and provides for children's lives.

Martha McKee, truly the matriarch of North Carolina Swimming, gave me the above statement - in needlepoint and framed - as a Christmas present in 1979 or 1980. Is there a better stated reason to get involved? I think not. It remains on the wall in my office at home as a sage reminder.

In the summer of 1977, it was my privilege to becoming the founding Head Coach of the Mecklenburg Aquatic Club, now known as SwimMAC Carolina. I retired from coaching, but not Swimming, in 1981. Afterwards, I served a number of years as a volunteer member of the Board and two years as the Business Manager. While I have no official role with the club today, I am a proud friend and supporter.
